“Beautiful music is not the privilege of a few, but a necessity of us all.”
– Robert Shaw
MasterVoices was founded in 1941 as The Collegiate Chorale by legendary conductor Robert Shaw, breaking barriers as one of the first interracial and interfaith choral ensembles of its era.
Under the leadership of Tony Award winner Ted Sperling since 2013, we’ve built on that tradition with acclaimed productions of musicals, operas, and choral repertoire featuring world-class artists performing alongside our diverse choral community. Recent productions include The Frogs with Nathan Lane, Anyone Can Whistle with Vanessa Williams, Lady In The Dark with Victoria Clark, Sheldon Harnick’s adaptation of Carmen, and the digital production of Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns, streaming on PBS’ AllArts.
The MasterVoices Chorus brings together volunteer singers from all walks of life, ranging in age from high school students to octogenarians, including participants in our Side-By-Side mentorship program. Together they help further our mission: using the unique power of the human voice to connect, unite, and inspire.
