A scintillating exploration of the relationship between Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek’s 27 takes you inside Stein’s Paris salon at 27 Rue de Fleurus, with such guests as Picasso, Hemingway, Matisse, and Fitzgerald. Commissioned by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, 27 received its world premiere in June 2014. For the opera’s New York premiere, Gordon has specially added new sections for the MasterVoices chorus. 27 starred Stephanie Blythe, Heidi Stober, Theo Lebow, Tobias Greenhalgh, and Daniel Brevik, the 150 singers of MasterVoices, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s, directed by James Robinson and conducted by MasterVoices’ Artistic Director Ted Sperling.
