About

This dramatic oratorio by composer Marisa Michelson and librettist Royce Vavrek tells the story of Noah’s Ark from the perspective of Noah’s wife, Naamah, who cares for the diverse species of animals on the Ark and guides them as they reach dry land. From the birds to the hippos, each group has its own concerns. Can they learn to live together after the crisis has passed? Inspired by the resilience of communities affected by Hurricane Sandy, this Father’s Day performance of Naamah’s Ark features community members from Lower Manhattan, the MasterVoices Chorus, and leading lady Victoria Clark, under the direction of Tony Award-winning conductor Ted Sperling.

This event is free and open to the public! No RSVP required.  Please note that there is no formal concert seating in the Park, and audience members are encouraged to bring their own blankets. The performance will last one hour and is suitable for all ages.

Read the reviews from Naamah's Ark

"Tony Award-winning Victoria Clark ("The Light in the Piazza") was Naamah, leading the production with her firm, clear soprano. She endowed Naamah with an indomitable spirit, shouldering the responsibility of managing the animals on the Ark..." - Feast of Music "Understanding Naamah’s journey required one to expand their mind and creative imagination. This was key to following along with the performance and gaining insight to the fearlessness of this profoundly relentless woman, who remained strong enough to spiritually lead all by example..." - Opera Wire “This is a unifying piece of work that involves multi-generational and multi-religious backgrounds and I think that Michelson and Vavrek tap into something profound by bringing everyone together.” - Cantor Rebecca Garfein quoted in Opera Wire
