About

This dramatic oratorio by composer Marisa Michelson and librettist Royce Vavrek tells the story of Noah’s Ark from the perspective of Noah’s wife, Naamah, who cares for the diverse species of animals on the Ark and guides them as they reach dry land. From the birds to the hippos, each group has its own concerns. Can they learn to live together after the crisis has passed? Inspired by the resilience of communities affected by Hurricane Sandy, this Father’s Day performance of Naamah’s Ark features community members from Lower Manhattan, the MasterVoices Chorus, and leading lady Victoria Clark, under the direction of Tony Award-winning conductor Ted Sperling.

ARK IN THE PARK: Free Art-Making Project For All Ages
June 17, 1pm-5pm, Rockefeller Park, entrance at Warren Street and River Terrace
Come and help create large animal “sculptures” to adorn Rockefeller Park for the Naamah’s Ark concert at 7pm! These sculptures will be colorful, whimsical pieces of art made from found objects, and the public is encouraged to help in their creation. Max Frieder, founder of Artolution, will give instructions and show you how it’s done!

This event is free and open to the public! No RSVP required. Please note that there is no formal concert seating in the Park, and audience members are encouraged to bring their own blankets. The performance will last one hour and is suitable for all ages.

Naamah’s Ark is produced in collaboration with the River To River Festival, presented by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), and Battery Park City Authority.
